National Fire Safety Month

This month is National Fire Safety Month. I'm not a fan of flame retardants but I do think fire safety is important! Remember to check your smoke alarms and replace batteries on a regular basis. Maintain your fire extinguishers, too. Some manufacturers recommend shaking your dry chemical extinguishers once a month to prevent the powder from settling/packing. Lastly, have a fire safety plan and go over it with your children! It's never too early to teach them about fire safety. If you have a multi-story home, think about investing in a fire escape ladder. We purchased this one from since it gave us reassurance knowing it is simple enough for a child to use and it won't tangle if we need to use it in a hurry. And remember that fire safety starts with prevention. If you are looking for some great resources to help your little ones understand, check out this link.
